Everything about Csn Mid-atlantic totally explained
Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic (
CSN Mid-Atlantic) is a regional sports network in the [[mid-atlanticstates|Mid-Atlantic region] It is owned by
Comcast and is a member of the
Comcast SportsNet. It was formerly known as
Home Team Sports (
HTS) and was partly owned by
CBS. Comcast acquired the network in early 2001 and rebranded it as CSN Mid-Atlantic in April of that year.
Programming
CSN Mid-Atlantic televises most games of the
NBA's
Washington Wizards, the
NHL's
Washington Capitals, and
MLS's
DC United. CSN Mid-Atlantic also carries the
NFL's
Washington Redskins magazine and post-game shows, and jointly broadcasts Redskins preseason games with
WUSA. The network has rights to college games from the
ACC and
Colonial Athletic Association and coaches shows from
Virginia Tech and the
University of Maryland, College Park.
Other programming includes a talk show called
Washington Post Live which airs on weekdays and
SportsNite, a highlight show which airs three times each night. The late-night broadcast of SportsNite is replayed during the morning as
SportsRise.
CSN Mid-Atlantic also carries games produced by
Fox Sports Net, most notably
ACC men's and women's basketball,
Pac-10 basketball, and
Big 12 and
Pac-10 football. They also air studio shows such as
The Best Damn Sports Show Period, and the
FSN Final Score. Other CSN affiliates in markets without a FSN affiliate also carry this programming.
Through the 2006 season, CSN Mid-Atlantic showed
Baltimore Orioles games, which moved to team-owned
MASN in
2007. Comcast refused to add MASN, which debuted in
2005 and also shows
Washington Nationals games, to its cable systems until
September 2006, because the company believed that they'd a contractual right to keep Orioles games on their network by having first and last refusal rights. This led to some subscribers switching to
DIRECTV, which had reached a deal with MASN, and a lawsuit between Comcast and the Orioles, which the Orioles ultimately won.
On air, the network simply refers to itself as Comcast SportsNet, rather than CSN. The network airs little programming produced by other Comcast SportsNet affiliates.
